A
Photographic Celebration of the Night Sky:
A CANADA-WIDE ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST
Sponsored by KW Telescope
This
FAQ is for those who are considering submitting their work
for our astrophotography contest.
1)
Can I submit a photo I took even if it was processed by
someone else?
Yes,
but it will be considered a dual submission. In the event
a dual submission is drawn as a prize winner only one prize
will be awarded.
2)
Does KW Telescope take ownership of the photography that
is submitted?
No.
The ownership remains with you. We only want permission
to print and frame those photos that are selected for display
in the exhibition the week of May 11 - 16, 2009. Full credit
is clearly displayed with each photo.
3)
If my photo(s) is selected, do I have to supply a framed
print for the exhibit?
No.
KW Telescope is paying for the framing and printing of all
photos selected for the exhibition.
4)
If my work is selected but I can't come to the media event,
will I still get recognition for my work?
Absolutely.
We are making preparations for internet access to all of
the exhibitors. If you have a web cam and a Messenger account
you can be present at the media event. Additionally, the
photographer and other details will be attached to each
of the photos in the exhibit. Credit will be given where
credit is due.
5)
Can I submit a photo that I have previously sold to a magazine,
book publisher or other entity?
Yes,
but only if you have permission to do so. We will not consider
any photos that are not legally owned by the photographer
unless their is express written permission to use it from
the owner. Also, the photo must have been taken within the
time frame as outlined in the contest rules.
6)
Can I submit a photo I took outside of Canada?
Certainly.
7) Can beginners submit their astrophotos?
Yes.
Although we anticipate a large number of submissions from
advanced imagers, we are eagerly inviting beginners to submit
their photos. This is why we are awarding some of the grand
prizes via random draw. YOUR PHOTO DOES NOT NEED TO BE SELECTED
FOR THE EXHIBITION IN ORDER FOR YOU TO WIN A GRAND PRIZE.
8)
What happens to the exhibit photos after the exhibition
ends?
We
hope to keep many of them on display in the store, and will
provide framed prints to any of the exhibitors who want
them (at cost).
Our
goal with the contest and exhibit is to create a centre
that honours the work of astrophotographers from across
Canada. If all goes well, this will be the first of many
annual exhibitions of this nature.
